Special measure for Turkish and Syrian temporary residents in Canada

Due to the devastating earthquake in Türkyie and Syria, Immigration and Citizenship Canada facilitates the process of temporary and permanent residence programs as well as refugee resettlement by putting them on priority .

Turkish and Syrian nationals can apply for an extension of their study, work or visitor status for free as of March 29, 2023. This will support those affected by the earthquake to extend their stay in Canada.

Also, open work permit pathways help those with temporary status extend or move between streams.

Canada will allow permanent residence applicants who lost their travel documents, such as a passport or approved travel document for a PR visa, caused by earthquakes to enter Canada.

If Canadians and PRs with Turkish or Syrian nationalities would like to return to Canada, the following process is for free:

  1. A temporary passport
  2. A limited-validity passports
  3. emergency travel documents
  4. Canadian citizenship certificates
  5. permanent resident travel documents
